‘‘Drum Garden offers courses for all levels, from Key Stage 1 to
A Level and Degree standard.’’

The following exercises are the first two parts of the Drum Garden Foundation Course for entry level players. If you do not have a drum kit or sticks you can still practice these exercises using your hands and playing on your legs.

Single & Double Stroke
Roll Sheet (PDF)
Constructing a Groove Sheet (PDF)

For the Single & Double Stroke Roll sheet, place one hand on each leg and work from the wrists. For the Constructing a Groove sheet, place your right hand on your right leg, this will represent the Hi Hat. Place your left hand on your left leg, this will represent the Snare Drum. The Bass Drum will be your right foot tapping on the floor, reverse this sequence if you are left handed. Anything you can play on a drum kit you pretty much play using your hands and legs. Not as much fun as the real thing but it will get your coordination in place, when you have your first proper lesson on a real drum kit you will already be able to play.
