Drum Garden Involved with University Study
Southampton Solent University recently approached Drum Garden Director Kevin Dredge to take part in a study to investigate the use of drumming as an alternative method of physical activity to improve childhood health and obesity.
The study is in the proposal stage and if grant funding is attained we will be looking for Drum Garden students to take part.
Kevin says “I was delighted to take part in this study and already know of the virtues of drumming from playing and teaching the drums for 33 years. Through this study we hope to clinically prove the benefits of drumming.
Drumming has already been proven to improve behavioral issues, learning difficulties, it is a great stress buster and helps overall fitness levels.
I see these benefits on a daily basis at the studios. We teach students from 6 - 75 year olds, all getting a range of benefits from drumming. Drumming also works the brain as well as the body, coordinating four limbs separately can be an interesting prospect.”
As you can see from the pictures Kevin was turned into a lab rat, wired to heart rate monitors, Co2 monitors and covered with luminous stickers to produce a 3D body mapping system for a computer image of his playing. |
